The Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a solemn, Church-approved prayer that expresses the fullness of Catholic doctrine concerning the Incarnate Son of God, His redeeming love, and His pierced Heart as the source of mercy, life, and salvation. Rooted in Sacred Scripture and developed in harmony with the Church’s approved devotion to the Sacred Heart—especially as promoted through the revelations associated with Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque—this litany directs the faithful toward adoration, reparation, and confident trust in Christ.
Unlike private devotional formulas, this litany possesses official ecclesial approval and is attached to indulgences under the usual conditions established by the Church. It is therefore especially fitting for both personal prayer and communal recitation, particularly in times of trial, need, and reparation.

Indulgence
The faithful who devoutly recite the Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus may obtain a partial indulgence, under the usual conditions established by the Church. A plenary indulgence may be obtained when the litany is recited publicly on the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, provided the customary conditions are fulfilled.
